Andrew Carnegie knew that. His $50,000 contribution helped build a library in Jacksonville in 1905. In 1986, The Foundation of Jacksonville, Inc. (d/b/a Library Foundation of Jacksonville) was formed as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation to carry forward Carnegie’s legacy that great libraries don’t just happen ... they must be nurtured.
